The black codes which is sometimes also known as the black laws were actually designed to restrict the rights of the African-Americans on the aftermath of civil war. These laws were passed in the year 1865 and 1866 by the southern states to make a thorough discrimination with the African-Americans, which almost compelled the African-American workers to work for low wages. Black codes enacted numerous laws to prevent the African-American population from achieving political and economic autonomy. The several ways, in which the policies of Black codes controlled the lives of newly emancipated Americans included:
